James Allen on the importance of the mind

I said it in my previous article - the mind is not the enemy of spirituality.  It seems that James Allen agrees with me!  Allen was a truly advanced spiritual writer. He knew the trappings of wealth and status, and warned his readers against them repeatedly. He knew that the way to God is the way of love and virtue, and the book from which this quote comes, Above Life’s Turmoil, prescribes virtue as the remedy for suffering and the only means to peace and enlightenment.

Even though he’s at the lighter end of classic spiritual thought, make no mistake: this man got it. I thought this particular chapter worth quoting in full – it is the second of his lovely book on virtue and integrity, Above Life’s Turmoil. It succinctly covers two of my pet subjects – the new age error of luxury and riches being an aim of the spiritual life, and the error that all truth immediately becomes crystal clear in the spiritual world.
